Lesser-Known Coastal Escapes

The Mediterranean and the Atlantic still have quiet shoreline — you have to drive an hour past the obvious resort, or take a small ferry, or accept that the road ends at a single guesthouse with a kitchen that closes at nine.

This hub gathers the coastlines we love most: small towns, working harbours, and the kind of beach where the only sound at sunset is the water.

Plan the journey

A short, practical brief

Travel in shoulder season

Late May and late September are the windows. The water is warm enough, the kitchens are open, and the small towns are themselves again.

Stay at least three nights

Coastal towns reveal themselves slowly. The third morning is usually the one you remember.

Eat where the boats land

The best meal is almost always at the taverna closest to the harbour, run by the family whose name is on the boat.

For tools and resources we trust — accommodation, experiences, transport, insurance — see Plan the Journey.
