Driving the Faroe Islands End to End
Eighteen islands, one tunnel network, and a week of weather that changes the country every twenty minutes.
Faroe Islands · October 2025 · 7 min read
The Faroes are small enough to drive across in an afternoon and dramatic enough that you will not want to. The new subsea tunnel network has made the outer islands suddenly easy. The wind has not.
Base yourself in Tórshavn, then move north for a few nights — Klaksvík is unfussy and well placed. Build the itinerary around the weather forecast, not the map. The cliffs at Vestmanna and the lake above the ocean at Sørvágsvatn are non-negotiable on a clear day.
Pack waterproofs for every hour. Tip the puffin colonies generously with your patience.
