Herdade da Matinha

A rural estate with its own restaurant, set in a valley in the Serra do Cercal near the Alentejo coast. The last person to live on the site before it became accommodation was a shepherd from the region, and for a period after the current owners took it on there was neither running water nor electricity. Thirty-five independent rooms are now spread across four buildings, among them a farmhouse, an adults-only wing and a surf lodge, on land with lavender and streams.
